Business Department Professors Went to America to Recruit Talented Scholars

In 2014, from January 2 to 5, Dean of Business Department Lai Desheng, Vice Dean Yang Chengyu, Qu Ruxiao, Director of Academic Committee Li Shi and Officer of International Affairs Xie Jia went to America to attend American Economics Association  to recruit excellent teachers for Maxdo College.

Considering the recruiting experience before, professors prepared a lot before going. In November and December, our department received more than 130 applications of applicants, who mainly are PhD graduates from top universities of America. After evaluating and comparing, we finally selected 28 candidates qualified for overseas interviews. These applicants graduated from Boston University, University of Wisconsin Madison, Illinois State University, University of California at Riverside, Ohio State University and National University of Singapore. Their majors range from Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Monetary Economics, International Finance and Corporate Finance.

When interviewing applicants, professors fully evaluated their research potential, teaching ability and team spirit. Dean Lai introduced the basic information and policies of our department and other teachers also answered the questions of research environment, teaching requirements, living environment and  salaries which applicants cared most. Applicants all expressed the willing to work in our university.
American Economics Association this year lasted three days, during which two papers of Prof. Li Shi —“Exploration of New and Existing Data for the Chinese Economy: Food, Health, and Economic Well Being” and “Labor Market Issues in China: Evidence from the RUMIC Longitudinal Survey” were accepted by the conference. And he was also invited to make a report in the conference.

Dean Lai and other professors also visited Salisbury University in Maryland, and had a meeting with its Vice President Dr. Brian Stiegler who is in charge of international relationships and Director of International Relationships Center Mr. Song Hongzhuan. They exchanged ideas about student exchange programs and summer visits programs and reached cooperation intention.
